About
A zine engine for damaged authority
The project is built to treat a private photo archive like authored editorial matter: self-images and objects only, then sequenced into one issue that can survive both a theatrical HTML edition and a cleaner EPUB reading copy.
Aesthetic brief
- Pure monochrome with black paper illusion, warm undertones, and photocopy residue.
- Versailles influence through staging, hierarchy, and courtly force rather than decorative ornament.
- Severe image crops, ritualized object studies, and stripped street-photography simplicity.
- Confrontational editorial voice kept inside a disciplined, mostly static reading flow.
System brief
- Astro, Tailwind CSS, MDX, and TypeScript keep the site fast and mostly static.
- `pretext` is isolated to cover headlines, decks, pull quotes, impositions, and fixed-height editorial blocks.
- The issue JSON, asset manifest, and MDX fragments form one source of truth for HTML and EPUB.
- Deployment targets Cloudflare Pages with no runtime dependency.
Current issue
Dark Versailles
A monochrome issue engineered as one reading sequence: photocopy abrasion, manifesto fragments, confrontational plates, and courtly severity flattened for web and EPUB from the same spine.
Public rule set
The production pipeline assumes a Photos Favorites export folder but never depends on live Photos automation. Manifest approval is explicit, public output is filtered, and derivative treatments stay attached to the original asset ids so the issue never loses its chain of custody.
